"Better Seeds, Better Production"
The use of quality agricultural seeds is vital in ensuring that IKURU shareholder farmers are able to increase yields and productivity, thus guaranteeing sustainable development.
Since 2006 IKURU has been producing agricultural seeds, with the assistance of International Partners. Investment in people, seed lines, and farmers has enabled IKURU to produce significant quantities of Certified Agricultural Seeds.
These Seeds include:
- White Maize - OPV and Non GMO
- White Maize – Hybrid (currently under development, available as of 2011)
- Groundnuts - several varieties including Nametil and JL24
- Soybeans - Non GMO
- Sesame – White Lindi
- Cowpeas – IT18
IKURU quality seeds are produced under contract with local farmers. The Farmers are provided with the required inputs (basic seed and fertilizer) and IKURU field extension services provide constant production support.
The Certified Seeds are processed by IKURU - machine cleaned, graded and packed in accordance with Industry Standards.
IKURU is a full member of AFSTA – African Seed Trade Association.
