CASHEW NUTS.
Mozambique has a long tradition as a producer and exporter of the highest quality cashew nuts.
Over 15,000 of IKURU’s shareholder producers are cashew nut farmers.
The unprocessed cashews are purchased by IKURU from the farmer shareholders and processed into cashew nut kernels under a toll processing agreement.
Currently over 60% of IKURU’s cashew nut kernels are exported to EU marketss, mainly as Fairrade cashews.
IKURU’s cashew nuts consistently meet the most stringent quality requirements as required by major brand retailers in Europe, i.e.:
- Hygiene
- Colour
- Grade (size)
- Packing
- Etc.,
GROUNDNUTS
IKURU is located in the major groundnut producing area in Northern Mozambique, and the majority of IKURU shareholder farmers are groundnut producers.
IKURU has exported for a number of years the Nametil variety of groundnuts (a derivative from the Natal Common type).
The major export markets are in the EU. Both ORGANIC and FAIRTRADE groundnuts are exported.
Since 2008 IKURU has installed and operates it’s own state of the art Food Testing Laboratory, mainly dedicated to groundnut testing in order to ensure full compliance with EU groundnut microbiological standards.
